Hike + Dine + Explore: A Family Day at Tinkers Creek

2026-09-10 Carey Ann George

Gorge overlooks, a cascading waterfall and a comfort-food dinner just minutes away — our full family itinerary through the Bedford Reservation and DANSPOT.

Some of the best family days in Northeast Ohio don't require a long drive. Tinkers Creek gorge, tucked inside the Bedford Reservation, gives you a real wilderness-feeling hike — shaded woods, a deep gorge, and a scenic overlook — all within a few minutes of home.

We started at the Tinkers Creek Gorge Scenic Overlook, where the view drops away into a tree-filled valley that's stunning in every season. It's a short, flat walk from the parking area, which makes it an easy first stop with kids in tow.

From there we took the loop trail down toward the creek. It's manageable for little legs, and the payoff is Great Falls of Tinkers Creek — a cascading waterfall in a quiet, wooded setting. Bring water shoes if your kids (like mine) can't resist getting near the water.

After working up an appetite, we drove over to DANSPOT in Walton Hills. It's our go-to for house-made soups, scratch sauces, and Italian-inspired comfort food — the chicken piccata is a family favorite. It's the kind of locally-owned spot that turns a hike into an entire family outing.

That's the idea behind our Hike + Dine + Explore guides: one outdoor adventure, one great local meal, and one more thing to explore. Bookmark this one for your next free afternoon.
